There are many ways in which I helped the workplace here. First off, my workplace is a classroom, and that means that there is always something to do when I don't have teacher assignments to take care of. From grading papers to helping students stay on task. One thing that I have focused most of my attention on during this internship is on a little boy named Eduardo. On my first day in Ms. Marcial's third grade class, on of the first things that I did was sit down next to him and helped him stay on task. It is very difficult for Eduardo to stay on task by himself, and that's where I come in. I help him by pushing him to finish his work. I do not force him and I do not raise my voice at him, for I know that it is not my place to do that, but I help him successfully just by putting some light pressure on him to do his work, and letting him know that I am there to help him with whatever he needs. Working with him has been one of my greatest achievements in this internship, because It really isn't in my nature to invest so much attention and effort into someone else, especially someone so young like Eduardo. Working with him, I have learned new skills about communicating with people, and I have discovered a new side of myself. A more patient side, and a side that is more willing to help the people around me. In that way, I feel like I have contributed to the workplace here. Something else that I did to contribute to the workplace was the lesson plan that I prepared for the teacher. I think that in this setting, the one inside an elementary school, it is important for the kids to always the most important thing, and having that lesson plan and delivering it to the kids so that they can learn is some thing that I consider a contribution to this specific workplace. It was a very unusual feeling, when I realized that the reason I was tired was the reason why I wanted to work even more. The kids have been amazing throughout this internship and I really want what is best for them as they develop into teens and into young adults and into independent. Just having that mindset while working with them, I feel is a contribution to the workplace.

The kids have been amazing throughout this internship and I really want what is best for them as they develop into teens and into young adults and into independent. Just having that mindset while working with them, I feel is a contribution to the workplace. This week in general was really all about interacting with the kids. Since the second week of my internship the kids had special testing, I was assigned tasks such as copies in the copy room, laminating, stapling, organizing and such. Since the kids are now out of testing I am now able help the teacher out as a teacher aid in class. That means that I can help them with their work and hold some sort of authority over little situations in class. This week was really exciting for me because of all the interactions I had with the kids. There is one kid in particular that I can really connect with, because when I help him, I see so much of my own habits in him. He needs special help concentrating because he can't on his own, and I'm there to put light pressure to help him complete his work. I really love working with him because when I help him, it's like I'm helping myself. I like observing the class and taking initiative when it came to helping those students who needed assistance, because this week my bond with the students grew a lot.
My role model in my workplace is obviously my internship mentor, which is Ms. Marcial. There are so many qualities and characteristics that I see in her that I want to develop in myself, like her solid dedication to what she is passionate about. I see so much responsibility from Ms. Marcial, to teach her third grade students to the best of her ability, and I admire that so much and I wish I was like her in that sense. I want to be passionate about something and I want to be able to motivate myself to get up everyday and be prepared to invest myself into something that I love, and also something that contributes to my happiness and to the community. I also see Ms. Marcial communicating really well with the kids. I would really like to communicate well with children, because I feel like if you can communicate simply with a child, you can communicate really well with an adult.
What strikes me the most about my workplace is the personalities that each of the classes have. I see so much student work posted up on the walls of each classroom and I have noticed it makes a nice and cozy and comforting environment for the students who work inside it. Since I came at the end of the year, one of my jobs was taking all of the student work down so that they could take it home, but once I took everything off, the classroom looked so empty and lacked personality. The most important thing inside any classroom are the students inside it, as they set the tone and feeling for everything. Every student contributes their own part into the whole. I really appreciate Ms. Marcial for being really successful in bringing out the best in students, because their best selves impact greatly the success of other students at their age.
A non academic skill I have now is having the capacity to function well with other individuals in group settings or partnerships. Another ability I have is critical thinking when sitations become difficult and having the capacity to make sense of things as I experience a difficult event without getting excessively sterssed. I can apply these abilities at my internship site because if at any point I'm put into group work I will have no issues with working with it I complete a great deal of things that include cooperation outside of school. I will also have the ability to apply critical thinking into my internship since more than likely I will be placed in a circumstance where I don't know how to accomplish something, however I will have the capacity to work through it and in the long run make sense of it. Being a hard worker will help me in light of the fact that in case I'm given a great deal of work to do I will work as hard and effeciently as I can to complete it and still have it be quality work.
Usually when someone asks me, “what do you want to do with your life?” or “what does your future look like?” I tell them: “It’s a surprise.” partly because it gives the illusion that I have my life together and I have this big plan and the response really impresses family. The truth is that I have only bits and pieces of bits and pieces that are only PART of a plan. All I want in life is to arrive to a position that I have worked diligently for and feel proud of it. I want to impress my family and my mother most of all. I want to shove my success in her face and very aggressively show her that I could do it. My big dream is to be happy, and although that is very cliche and cheesy, it’s the truth. It’s the truth, but only a very small part of it because I haven’t told you what being happy means to me specifically yet. Besides the two things I previously told you I don’t know what else I want, and I only have a very not helpful plan to get there. Something that I need to work on is my organization and my concentration, and in my case they are a cause and effect type of pair. The reason why I am a fairly unorganized person is because of the lack of ability to concentrate. Going into internship, I feel pretty stoked about completing the actual internship. The whole experience is so bizarre and foreign to me but it doesn’t mean i’m not excited.
